We are what we believe we are.
We are only capable of what we believe we are capable of.
We are only limited by what we believe we are limited.
In two days I’m releasing my new podcast, Mindset Mastery.
I really believe that to be successful in anything we do in life, we have to start with a healthy mindset.
The thoughts we have everyday can either help us move in the direction we want to go, or keep us stuck in the same toxic patterns.
Did you know that 80% of our thoughts are negative? And 95% of those thoughts are the same ones we had yesterday.
That’s a scary number, right?
I became obsessed with reading and listening to personal development books, audio books, and then podcasts when I quit my first full time job in the media industry.
This was a low point for my mental health and self-esteem because I believed I was a failure for not trying harder to stick it out in that role.
Looking back now, that particular job just wasn’t for me, and there have been so many exciting opportunities and experiences that I wouldn’t have had if I’d stayed.
But on the day I resigned I felt gutted.
The expectations I laid on myself around being successful in this job were crippling.
My inner dialogue told me that because I hadn’t succeeded straight away in my chosen field, while my friends were thriving in theirs, I was a failure.
I didn’t try hard enough.
I’m not as good as I think I am.
I’m not cut out for this sort of work.
I felt like I had thrown away everything I’d worked for and I didn’t know how I would ever get another job in media.
I didn’t want to tell my friends and family straight away because I was afraid they would think I was a failure too…
Of course, none of these things were true.
Failure is not the end. There is always another path to take. And my friends and family support me unconditionally.
All the negative thoughts were constructs of my mind.
It was time to make a change.
On my commutes I started listening to audiobooks instead of music. One day I listened to the book ‘Influence’ by Robert B. Cialdini and this blew my mind open to a fascination of psychology.
This book triggered an obsession in me for learning about positive psychology, neuroscience and mindset.
I wanted to learn how to take control of my thoughts, become more confident and feel powerful.
When I quit my job I decided that I didn’t want to move from where I was living, so when my final days were up I had to find a way to support myself so I could keep the lifestyle I’d come to love.
I had nothing to lose, and even though I was afraid to, I reached out to all the media production houses in the area.
After dozens of emails, one company took me on board, and my skills and confidence began to skyrocket.
For the next year I worked as a freelance camera operator for a number of production houses and started to build a community of like minded, supportive people around me.
Reframing the way I viewed my situation and myself changed everything.
I began growing That Camera Girl alongside working as a freelance camera operator, and in both of these experiences I’ve had the privilege of meeting and working with incredibly inspirational people who help others to see their own power and find their purpose.
I now want to share their stories and experience through this podcast.
Having a healthy mindset and positive self talk is something you have to work at every day. It isn’t always easy and there will be bad days.
But I believe mindset controls the outcome of everything else in our life. I’m starting this podcast to bring together a community who feel the same way.
In this podcast I’ll be interviewing inspirational people from many different walks of life about their experience and knowledge of mindset, positive psychology and neuroscience.
I would be delighted to have you join me in the journey towards mindset mastery.
I can’t wait for you to hear the first episode. If you, or someone you know would like to be a guest speaker please email me at rachel@thatcameragirl.com
Remember, we are only limited by what we believe we are limited.
